Dear Founders You Should Know friends,
I’ve been trying to come up with some kind of image, or metaphor, to describe the whirlwind that was organizing this month’s FYSK — and the herculean effort of our friends and colleagues in saving the event from near-disaster. It felt, honestly, like driving 70 mph down a highway with a mattress strapped to the roof of the car, grasping out the window to hold everything together with one arm. Barely held together. As it happened, due to some hiccups with our scheduled venue, we were venue-less until three days before FYSK.
Even when it was down to the wire and prospects were looking bleak that we’d find a space large enough to accommodate our growing community, I was stubbornly optimistic. We have such incredible people in our networks, and so many members of the community who find the showcase valuable and want it to exist in the world, that I felt certain a venue wouldn’t stand in the way.
It’s a testament to the power of this community that everything worked out, and we were able to gather for the show.
I want to express my immense gratitude to the folks who helped make it all happen. An enormous thank you to Alex Hartz, Emilio Reyes le Blanc, Paul Klein, Max Mailman, Max Webster, CC Gong, Avery Lamp, Mack Bosmeny and Funda Ogze Sahin. And a very warm thank you to Chris Owusu and his colleague John Roskos from JLL who worked so hard to find us an epic spot.Thank you to April Cheng and Camille Ricketts who connected us with Emily Fernandez and Nick Gehlen at Notion as cohosts of this month’s showcase. We’re very grateful to the Notion team for so generously sharing their beautiful space with us.
I also want to give a special shoutout to our cohost, Jess Ou from NEA who was the perfect partner to navigate this unexpected bump in the show. She was calm, responsive, efficient and has great relationships across the startup ecosystem.
We hope you enjoy this month’s recap. If you’d like to connect with any of these founders, send me a forwardable email blurb and I’m happy to suggest the connection!
If you’re an engineer looking for a new role, APPLY NOW for our next FYSK on December 6th in SF.
Warmly,
Jen and the FYSK team
