Dear Founders You Should Know friends,
Reflecting back on this past year, I wanted to share two stories that highlight the entrepreneurship of this community, and the ever-fine line between a founder and an early joiner.
The first story is about Sam, who started coming to Founders You Should Know back in August 2022 while figuring out her next career move. She lived in Flagstaff at the time and traveled back and forth between SF and Arizona. Fast forward less than 18 months later — she shared her company, New Computer, with the FYSK community on stage. We’ve seen a lot of you make the leap to starting your own company in the past year and we’re really proud to support you. Sam’s the first founder to make this transition from audience to stage but we’re sure she won’t be the last!
The second story is about Clarence, who presented at our showcase last year when he was the co-founder of Unit21. He hired a bunch of engineers and product managers from this community and recently, started a new company. When we learned that Clarence was starting something new, we were excited to feature him in the showcase again and formally invest in him through the FYSK fund. Those of you who have invested in our community fund have now also invested in Clarence’s new company, Coverbase.
I’m inspired by these stories because they speak to the evolution of the community and the enduring nature of the relationships built here. The tech community in the Bay Area is small enough, and our careers are long enough, that we get to witness our friends and peers through every professional chapter — as attendees become founders, and founders become attendees, or second-time founders. This community is designed to provide rich resources at every step along the way.
Check out our recap of the last showcase below, and if you’d like to connect with any of these founders, send me a forwardable email blurb and I’m happy to suggest the connection.
If you’re looking for a new role, APPLY NOW for our next FYSK on February 7th in SF.
Warmly,
Jen and the FYSK team
