2 hours at one of Forbes' Next Billion-Dollar Startups
Assort Health is rebuilding how patients access care at rapid speed
Jeff Liu might be the busiest CEO on LinkedIn when it comes to welcome posts.
Nearly every time I open the platform, Assort Health’s cofounder is introducing another new team member. It's hard to imagine the company had fewer than 20 employees when Jeff presented at our Founders You Should Know Showcase in March—they've since doubled in size and landed on Forbes' 2025 Next Billion-Dollar Startups list.
Last week, I decided to stop lurking Linkedin and see what the energy feels like up close. I visited their office for the next episode of our Startup Video Series Lunch Break.

Plenty of companies call themselves ‘mission-driven’ in an attempt to stir up a little empathy. A few hours at Assort Health made it clear what a mission-driven company actually looks like.
Every Assort team member I spoke with brought up the company's healthcare access mission. Manning, one of Assort's earliest business hires, described helping Americans gain access to care as her tenure's highlight. Ray, the new VP of Sales, called his team "patient-obsessed." The engineers I met consistently connected their technical work to patient outcomes. Connor, one of Assort's founding engineer, noted that new teammates typically begin delivering patient-focused work within their first month.
Despite rapid hiring, the team is very carefully assembled. Engineers who had been there only a couple months worked together with the same ease as the founding team. Ray, despite joining recently, operated with the authority of someone who had been leading this specific team for years — he sent his sales team off to the airport for client meetings with specific, tailored sales guidance. I expected to find the typical hyper-growth chaos. Instead, I observed a team that channeled the company's rapid pace into focused, high-energy execution.
Assort's team dynamics are built on the foundation established by co-CEOs Jon and Jeff. Jon, the more reserved of the two, handles Assort's finance, operations, and sales. But reserved doesn't mean withdrawn—throughout my visit, I watched him crack jokes and celebrate small wins in ways that clearly resonated with his team. Jeff, who oversees Assort’s EPD (eng, product, design) and customer implementations/success, operates as Assort’s in-house hype man and driving force. His feedback to engineers is direct and action-oriented. No abstract critiques. It’s easy to see why Jon describes their partnership as the fastest-moving professional relationship of his career. When I asked a team member to describe the founders, they put it simply: “they’re pretty different, and that’s exactly why it works.”
Their rapid hiring timeline became clear during my visit. Several team members referenced growing customer traction, and the workload I observed suggested they're racing to keep up with demand. I pointed out the empty coffee cans on an employee’s desk and got a clear answer: lots of customer meetings.
They're looking to fill positions quickly—if you thrive in fast-moving environments, now is the best time to join. If you’re interested in open roles, send us a quick blurb about yourself and why you’re a good fit, and we’ll make a warm intro to the team if there’s a match.
